UNLOCK THE SECRETS TO BETTER ORAL HEALTH: TIPS AND TRICKS FOR A BRIGHTER SMILE
FOR DR.ROZE BIOHEALTH CLINICS | 17.04.2023
As the saying goes, “a smile is the universal language of kindness.” However, a beautiful smile is not just about aesthetics – it’s also a sign of good oral health. Proper oral hygiene is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums, as well as preventing gum disease, tooth decay, and other dental problems. In this blog, we’ll explore some tips and tricks for better oral health, so you can unlock the secrets to a brighter smile.
1. Brush and floss regularly
It may seem obvious, but brushing and flossing regularly is the foundation of good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss at least once a day to remove plaque and food particles that can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Use a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive toothpaste, and brush for at least two minutes each time.
2. Avoid the regular use of mouthwash
Most commercial mouthwashes contain very harsh chemicals that not only destroy the pathogenic bacteria in your mouth, but they also destroy the good bacteria! This causes an imbalance in the oral microbiome leading to bad breath, and even higher risk of cavities! Healthy oral microbiome means a healthy gut as both are connected.
3. Eat a healthy diet
What you eat can have a big impact on your oral health. A diet high in sugar and acidic foods can lead to not only tooth decay, but also enamel damage that can make your teeth appear yellower and increase teeth sensitivity.
A diet based on wholefoods can help keep your teeth and gums healthy. Calcium-rich foods, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt, can help strengthen your teeth. Foods rich in vitamin A, D3 and K2 such as beef liver, grass fed butter and fermented foods can promote the assimilation of this calcium.
4. Avoid tobacco products
Tobacco products, including regular cigarettes and e-cigarettes, can cause a range of oral health problems, including teeth discoloration, gum disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer. If you use tobacco products, quitting is the best thing you can do for your oral and overall health.
5. Wait at least 30-45 minutes before brushing your teeth.
After a meal, the pH of our saliva goes down promoting tooth demineralisation. Our saliva has a buffer capacity, which means that it is able to bring the pH back to normality and start the remineralisation process, but it needs at least 30 minutes to do so. That’s why it is important to wait, otherwise you will brush your demineralised weak enamel away!
6. Visit your dentist regularly
Regular dental checkups and cleanings are essential for maintaining good oral health. Your dentist can identify and treat any problems early on, before they become more serious. At Dr. Roze Biohealth we recommend visiting your dentist every six months.
7. Get orthodontic treatment if necessary
Orthodontic treatment, such as braces or clear aligners, can help correct crooked or misaligned teeth, as well as improve bite alignment. Proper bite alignment is essential for good oral health, as it can prevent tooth wear and gum disease. A “bad bite” (what dentists refer to as a malocclusion) often causes an imbalance in the jaw-to-skull relationship, which in turn twists the jaw into a strained position that creates pain to the muscles in the neck, shoulders, and back. Pain can occur in the upper back as well as the lower back.
By following these tips and tricks, you can unlock the secrets to better oral health and enjoy a brighter, healthier smile. If you have any concerns about your oral health, contact Dr. Roze Biohealth Clinic in Dubai to schedule a consultation.
