Q: How often should I visit my hygienist for a scale and polish?

I generally recommend a cleaning and check-up every six months. However, this is very much based on your individual oral health needs. Your dentist or hygienist will advise on the appropriate interval for your cleanings.

Q: What should I do if I have sensitive teeth?

Discuss your symptoms with your dentist or dental hygienist. They can help identify the underlying cause of your sensitivity and recommend appropriate treatments, such as desensitizing toothpaste (I personally recommend our ROZE toothpaste – 100% natural, toxin-free with hydroxyapatite), or ozone treatment. There is a range of natural treatments that can help reduce the sensitivity on your teeth.

Q: I’m interested in teeth whitening. What kind of teeth whitening treatments do you offer and is it safe for my teeth?

Teeth whitening procedures are generally safe and effective when done according to the recommended guidelines and with a licensed professional, like our team of hygienists at Dr. Roze BioDental. It’s essential to first consult with your hygienist to determine the most suitable whitening option for your individual needs. At Dr. Roze BioDental we offer in-office whitening treatments such as Zoom! and Flash whitening systems, as well as at-home treatments (custom-made trays with whitening gel). Treatments are planned according to your whitening expectations and sensitivity – we can even space out the sessions over several appointments if you are extremely sensitive. You can expect to be on the chair anywhere from 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours for your cleaning and whitening appointment.

Q: How can I improve my bad breath?

There are many factors that can cause bad breath (e.g., poor oral hygiene, gum disease, dry mouth, or underlying medical conditions, unbalanced oral microbiome, gut disfunction). Maintaining good oral hygiene practices, including brushing your tongue, staying hydrated, and a healthy diet, can help improve bad breath. Silent dental infections can cause bad breath as well, so it’s important to look for the root cause.

Q: Are electric toothbrushes better than manual toothbrushes?

Not necessarily. The most important thing is to use them correctly and consistently. Some people find electric toothbrushes easier to use or more effective at removing plaque, especially for those with dexterity issues or orthodontic appliances. Personally I used both manual and electric toothbrushes.

Q: What toothpaste do you recommend?

Any flouride-free toothpaste with hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite is great for protecting the enamel and remineralizing teeth. Dr. Roze BioHealth recently launched it’s very own toothpaste, I’ve been recommending it to all my patients and I personally use it on the daily. I love that it has 15% hydroxyapatite (the only one on the martket!), as you need at least 10% for it to be effective.

Q: What are the signs of gum disease, and can you check for this?

Sure – as part of your scale and polish appointment, we always perform a basic periodontal exam. If we notice any signs of gum disease (e.g. red, swollen, or bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums, etc.), we will refer you to our in-house gum specialist for a periodontal assessment. Gum disease can be treated with our bio cleanings and improved oral hygiene practices at home.
