We can help ensure to protect your gums during the procedure in our office. Alternatively, if you choose at-home teeth whitening products purchased over-the-counter, there is the potential for the bleaching agent to leak out onto your gums. When in doubt, rely on our specialist for a safe and thorough application.

Is scaling or polishing necessary before teeth whitening ?
C Sometimes : While we will eliminate stains and plaque during the whitening process, teeth whitening is not a substitute for scaling and polishing If there is visible tartar on the exterior of teeth, scaling and polishing will be necessary prior to teeth whitening.

Do you have to do anything special after teeth whitening ?
A Yes : To ensure the best results, you will want to avoid eating any foods or drinks that can stain teeth for at least 48 hours. This includes coffee, tea, red wine, juices, berries, foods with artificial colors, etc. You should also refrain from smoking as long as possible.

Will teeth whitening work on veneers, composites or bonding?
B No : Whitening does not change the color/shade of dental bonding/composite or any non-natural tooth restoration like veneers or dental implants.

How can I maintain white teeth?
A, B and C : The best way to keep teeth white and to also maintain good oral health is to brush a minimum of twice a day and floss and use mouthwash daily. By practicing good oral hygiene, you can ensure enamel stays strong and stains on teeth do not develop.
Avoid harmful foods and drinks to ensure your teeth stay white. Also, be sure to visit the dentist on a regular basis for routine cleanings at least twice a year.
You can also come over for a second zoom teeth whitening with our specialist if you want to keep your teeth as bright as they are, knowing that the color will start to fade slightly after several months.
