Myofunctional therapy
Myofunctioanal therapy is designed to be engaging and straightforward. Each session involves a set of non-invasive exercises to be performed over the following week(s). Though the exercises may be challenging initially, they are achievable with practice.
The goal is to tone, strengthen, and improve the functioning of orofacial muscles to enhance breathing, eating, and resting habits. Active engagement and commitment to completing the exercises are essential for achieving effective results.
We provide therapy for adults and children, starting at age 2.
Initial assessment
We’ll conduct a 45-minute initial assessment to gain a comprehensive understanding of your lifestyle, medical history, diet, oral hygiene, and other relevant factors such as sleep patterns.
This in-person assessment is crucial for identifying any orofacial myofunctional disorders and determining areas that may require more focused therapy. It also helps us decide whether we need to refer to another specialist.
Consultation
Therapy sessions (30-45 minutes), involve hands-on exercises and practice. Patients are given specific tasks to perform at home.
We’ll schedule regular follow-ups to monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed, ensuring a tailored approach to improving orofacial health and function.
Our therapist also prepares patients for frenectomy procedures by explaining what to expect in an age-appropriate manner and conducting targeted pre-procedure exercises. Post-operative support is also provided.
